Get started: Installing our Chrome extension

To begin your journey with FactChecker Pro, the first step is quick and easy. Simply install our Chrome extension by following these steps:

  1. Open Google Chrome and go to: chrome://extensions/
  2. Enable Developer Mode using the toggle in the top-right corner.
  3. Click "Load unpacked".
  4. Select the FactChecker Pro folder (the root folder containing manifest.json).
  5. The extension icon will appear in your Chrome toolbar. Click the puzzle icon and pin it for easy access.

Don't forget to note your Extension ID shown on the extensions page; you will need it to configure the server for full functionality.

  • Credibility scoring: Every page you visit receives a score from 0 to 100 based on domain history, claim density, and known misinformation signals.
  • Claim detection: Our AI identifies statistical claims, political statements, medical assertions, and date-sensitive facts, highlighting them directly on the page.
  • Source analysis: Discover domain ownership, publication history, and peer fact-check reviews surfaced in the floating panel.
  • Fact-check reviews: We pull live ClaimReview data from fact-checking organizations worldwide.
  • Community submissions: Submit suspicious claims to the moderation queue for community and AI review.
  • Transparency score: Earn points for every contribution. Rise through the ranks and appear on the leaderboard.
  • Social media overlay: Adds a "Check info" button to posts on Twitter/X and Facebook.
  • Dashboard: Access personal analytics showing browsing history, accuracy score, submissions, and badges.

Your first steps: Using FactChecker Pro

Using FactChecker Pro for the first time is straightforward. Here’s how you can leverage its power immediately:

  1. Check page credibility: Click the FactChecker Pro icon in your Chrome toolbar to open a pop-up. It displays the current page's credibility score with a color-coded grade (green for high, amber for mixed, red for low).
  2. Access quick actions: The pop-up also shows quick actions like "Open Dashboard", "Submit a claim", and "Settings". Use the "Flag page" button to send the current URL into the community moderation queue.
  3. Utilize the floating panel: A floating panel appears automatically on every page. You can drag it to any position on your screen for convenient access to insights.
  4. Explore your dashboard: Open the dashboard from the toolbar icon or the floating panel. It contains five sections, including "Accounts & Transparency Score". To create an account, click "Sign in / Register", switch to the "Create account" tab, enter your details, and click "Create account & start earning". Your account is instantly created with a starting Transparency Score of 60.

Our unique Transparency Score rewards every action you take in the community, reflecting the quality of your contributions. Every action you take, whether submitting claims or reviewing others, directly impacts your score, which is always between 0 and 150. For example, when you submit a claim:

  1. Open the Dashboard and click "My submissions" in the sidebar.
  2. Click "+ New submission".
  3. Paste the exact claim, headline, or statement you want reviewed.
  4. Enter the source URL where you found it.
  5. Select a category (Politics, Health, Science, Economics, etc.).
  6. Set priority to urgent if the claim is spreading rapidly.
  7. Optionally explain why you find it suspicious and add a screenshot link.
  8. Click "Submit for review". You earn +5 points immediately.
