These are the questions visitors asked us most at the HU expo.
What is FactChecker Pro?
A tool that helps you check whether something you read online is true. It started as a browser extension and now also runs on Windows and Android.
Is it free?
Yes, the core features are free. Optional paid plans add team access, exports and priority support.
How is it different from searching online?
It goes straight to independent fact-checking organisations and shows their published verdicts, plus credibility information about the source.
How accurate is it?
Fact-check results come from established organisations. We surface their work, we do not replace it. When no fact-check exists, we tell you.
Does it use AI?
AI Analysis is one clearly labelled feature. Claim Check itself searches real fact-check data.
Which browsers and devices are supported?
Chrome, Edge, Windows through the Microsoft Store, and Android in open testing. iOS is planned after Android.
How do I join the Android test?
Open the mobile test page, enter your email and follow the install steps. Tell us what you think afterwards.
Do I need an account?
No. An account only keeps history, streaks and progress in sync across your devices.
Do you track or sell my searches?
No. Claim searches work anonymously.
Who funds this and is there a bias?
FactChecker Pro is an independent project. It is not funded by a political party, a media company or an advertiser. Verdicts come from independent third party fact-checkers.
What are credits?
Credits are a small reward for taking part, such as checking claims, reading the daily tip, watching a news clip or listening to a podcast. You use them for extra picture rounds in Spot the Fake. The full list of amounts and daily limits is on the Transparency Score page.
Can I listen to podcasts with the screen off?
Yes, on the Android app. Podcasts keep playing with the screen off and you get lock screen controls. In the browser extension and the Windows app, they play while the tab or window stays open.
What is the history explorer?
A part of News Videos where you pick a year or decade and a topic such as war, science, sports or culture, and the matching videos load. Surprise me picks one for you.
What is the Innofest certificate?
On 7 October 2026 we received an Innofest Certificate of Achievement for completing the Test Like The Best program, a six week testlab for sustainable and social innovations. Read the story.
Where do I get the Windows app?
From the Microsoft Store, from the GitHub releases page, or with winget once the latest update clears review.
Why does a site I tested score between 50 and 60?
The score is a guide to the source, based on what we can see about ownership, funding and track record. It is not a verdict on any single article. For a single claim, use Claim Check and read the independent fact-checks.
What is Election Watch?
A panel of fact-checked election claims and news. The Dutch version uses Dutch language sources. The global version works for the country and language you pick.
